First, let me just say that I soooo don't like watching the news. It just drives me nuts!!!
There are three schools (or was it two???

) who have had to close because the weight of the snow on the roof is causing structural damage. Yikes!!!! In one district, a few of the grades are going to have to go to other schools while repairs are made. It was also recommended that if there was a lot of snow on someone's house, they may want to have it removed. Not only is there the possibility of a roof collapse and or damage, but also blocked heating vents causing a build up of carbon monoxide. Hopefully with temps currently in the mid 40's, all that roof snow will do some major melting. Unfortunately, artic air is headed our way....
The weather forecast indicates that a nasty mixture of sleet, freezing rain and snow are on the agenda for tomorrow. (@"*$%&$@!) Figures. Tomorrow Pumpkin has a follow-up appointment with her doctor. I haven't thought about it since her annual physical. But, I did have concerns with her physical development. It seems soooo soon to be worrying about the onset of puberty. She's only just turned 8 for crying out loud!!!! Where's her childhood?
Her doctor wants to do a little bit of testing tomorrow. There is a concern that maybe something is going on and her body isn't doing what is should. That, as a Mom terrifies me!!!! We've known since before Christmas, but we just didn't want to say anything to anyone and have them worry. The way the doctor sounded over the phone, it could possibly be serious. I just keep trying to breathe and not let it bother me. Honey wanted to come with us tomorrow just so he could have a few of his questions answered. So obviously, I don't want this put off... but with the weather... I guess we'll see.
The Maine CDC has reported that the flu continues to spread through Maine this year. It may have been the cause of death for a child and two young adults (depending on autopsy results). At the end of last month, 8% of flu cases were linked back to hospital and medical facilities.

How crazy is that?
Pumpkin's riding instructor and her husband had the flu for 11 days. This was the first day she's been back to work. She has two barns. One houses her Throughbred mare (Pumpkin's favorite) and an old Appaloosa stallion. The other houses the very pregnant Morgan, Ms. M, Daddy Friesian, and their other two offspring, both geldings. I can't imagine having to be so ill and still taking care of 6 horses three times a day. At one point we offered to try and help out with the afternoon "snack", weather permitting, but they refused.
This weekend Daddy F got out of the barn and ended up at the other barn with Appy and Miss Stubborn. Apparently he beat them up pretty bad.

Appy is the instructor's baby. He has been with her the longest and he's the charming elderly gentleman type. The thought of in his prime Daddy against Appy makes me hope that he is all right. Pumpkin's instructor was extremely upset over the incident. Learning as I am (trying to anyway) about horses, I do understand it's just horse behavior. Note to self, however: When I do hopefully, eventually go to work with her, start now making a list of situations so that I'll be better prepared incase, for instance, he becomes determined to wander around the property again.
A Friesian~

I suppose I have got to get ready for my quilting class tonight. Exciting!!! I really just hope that the weather holds out. With all the melting today and then the temps dropping, I am a bit nervous about icy roads. I guess we'll just have to deal with it as it develops.

Cheers! ~MacKenzie
