It was a looongggggg weekend this weekend. Although the snow stopped mid Sunday afternoon, the roads were lousy which left me feeling pretty much cooped up in the house all weekend long.
Stuck in the house with thousands and thousands of thoughts running through my head.... mmmm.... yeah....
This morning I took the opportunity between storm fronts to get some badly needed errands done. Ever look in your cabinet to find only 4 out of the 5 ingredients you need for whatever it is you want to cook??? So far the grocery bill this week wasn't so bad... we had half the stuff here in our cupboards!!!
First thing I had to do was fill the van up with gas. ($3.27 a gallon... oh, that hurt!!!!!) My mom drilled it into my head that a woman should NEVER EVER let her gas tank go past the half mark (even when her husband uses it....). A woman is completely ridiculous to run out of gas and become stranded along side the road as rape, murder or possible freezing to death may just become her fate. Yes, she was a little over the top on that one although I'm fairly certain that her heart truly was in the right place.
So we leave the gas station and I look down and there's this long smear of blood across Monkey's cheek!!!! Sigh... well, (insert grumpy word ..here..). It may help to know that Monkey is still in the nose picking stage.... So we turned towards home although half way there, I noticed that Honey was alone at work so we saved a little time by stopping there.
It seems like walking through the store with twins always takes so much longer than it did with just Pumpkin. It's double the attention, double the warnings, double the "Please put those back" double the... well, everything. Today, however was one of the better shopping trips. They listened really well, they didn't really whine when I asked them to stay with the cart or to put something back. That was nice. Maybe they were just as happy to be out as I was!!!

A situation occurred with the girls this weekend, one of their many upsets. It was interesting because Honey and I just saw it from different points of view. How many times does that happen in life in general? One person says something.... others interpret it in a different context and depending on how it's handled...

only in these circumstances, it's just not so pretty. I'm not a great verbal communicator so it reminds me that I really have to try and work on those skills. Unfortunately, part of the problem is that I'm working so hard on choosing the right words and use them carefully that by the time they leave my head are ready to float out in the atmosphere, the moment is usually past...

ah well.... keep trying, keep learning. I'm also left to ponder about how words are used in the blogworld in general. How many, MANY times do words get misconstrued?

Honey and I took on different projects this weekend. He made me some beautiful cabinets over the sewing area so I would be able to organize my space and work more efficiently. Before I just had everything piled (trying to be neat) on one side of the table with the sewing machine on the other side. Now, the table is clear as everything is in its proper place above. He even stained it to match the woodwork. It looks fantastic.
I sort of went on a cleaning rampage. Door, the tops of the cabinets and wood molding, windows, walls, inside cabinets.... you know.. all the places you don't usually see but still get dirty... that was my focus. Also, for whatever reason, our bedroom just somehow becomes a dumping ground for everything.
So I started really going through all the shelves in there. It was so hard because I hate throwing things away. Everything has sentimental value to me. But, when it comes down to it, exactly how many pictures of scribbling do I need??? It's horrible because on one hand they were gifts to me from the girls. But they go through paper like crows do a loaf of bread. And you want to encourage their creativity... but on the other hand, think of allllll the trees they're killing.... Okay, dramatic again, yes. Anyway, I took the best of the best and threw the rest into recycling. That was hard.
Magazines from over a year ago... gone. "Beauty" products that I never use any more, hairbands that I've had for at least 8 years, and more... gone. I know why I was holding onto them, but it was time to let a few things go. Amazing how things accumulate and you don't even realize it.

Pumpkin has discovered the wide world of computers, games in particular. She received a computer game pack for Christmas. Two of them are mysteries, one is about running your own horse stable and the other is like a pet resort where the owners drop off their pets and you have to care for them. You can receive everything from turtles to circus animals the more points you build up and the better your business does.
It's cute, but wow.... I think she could stay on the computer for an entire day if we let her. But one hour during week days and two hours weekend days as all she's allowed. And unfortunately, I seem to have become the time keeper. "THAT wasn't two hours!!!!" Why, as a matter of fact, my dear... it WAS! I understand as it can go by so quickly. However... I HATE being the bad guy. If I can find a really inexpensive alarm clock, I plan to get it so I won't have to be in that situation any longer.

Speaking of time, mine draws to an end as the dryer announces it's end with the annoying buzzing sound. If I could, I swear I would cut the wires to that thing. It is the MOST annoying sounding dryer buzzer I've ever heard. I'm also reminded that my afternoon tasks shouldn't wait much longer and the sooner I am done with those, then maybe I can PLAY!!!!! yay!
Cheers! ~MacKenzie
