 Friday Quiz

It's definitely been one of those "hit the ground" running type of mornings. Trying to look through the Blogthing list with their quizzes like "Are You a Vain girl?" "Are You a Girl or a Woman?" "What Flavor Lip Gloss are You?" "Do Men think You're a Tease?" "Who's Your Celebrity Boob Twin?" or the "What Kind of Bra are YOU?" is slightly annoying this morning. Okay fine... so I took the body parts one... it was rather amusing.

Not wanting to get too serious, or too silly today, I kept today's quiz short, simple, sweet......

Your Birthdate: September 26
You lucked out the the skills to succeed in almost any arena.

Your weakness: You can be a little too proud of your successes

Your power color: Turquoise

Your power symbol: Arrow pointing up

B-DAY BALLOONS

Actually, I must have birthday on the brain today as I'm off to try and finalize some details on Pumpkin's birthday that's just a few days away.....

 Winter Fun

Yesterday, Pumpkin's school had a teacher's workshop day so she had an extra day off from school. Our neighbor from up the hill made it a point to stop in and let us know that her whole back yard was still quite snow covered. If we wanted, the hill behind her house slopes gently down towards the huge frozen pond that's behind her house. We were more than welcome any time to go over and slide.

Well, when the girls heard that.... No wind, temps reaching 30 (a heatwave!!!), cabin fever... Okay kids, get your coats, we're going sledding!!!!

Sledding

Laurie was right. Her backyard is awesome!!!! You can slide right down the hill and glide to a gentle stop on the pond. The girls went down the hill on their butts, on their tummies, on their knees, backwards, forwards, sideways..... Finally they began to tire out a little... which is what I was waiting for!

Ice Skating

The girls and I went down and began walking on the ice. It's been years and years and years since I went ice skating, and although I had/have no skates, all four of us pretended to be these beautiful, talented and absolutely amazing skaters

ice skating girl

I couldn't believe how absolutely smooth the ice was. It was nice because there was just enough snow patches that clung to the ice so that you didn't go spiraling out of control. The girls discovered it was awesome to make pictures and "ice" angels. THEN, we brought the sleds onto the ice and I'd twirl the girls around on their sleds and let go causing them to go spinning over the ice, out of control. It was so much fun. Finally, after being out there for about 2 1/2 hours, the girls were exhausted, and cold, and wet. They slumped down on one of the big boulders by the pond and just stared at me. Getting them up the hill and to the car was a bit of a challenge, but we did it!!! Mom C saw us coming in and started boiling some water for us for hot chocolate. That was sweet!

It's Wednesday??? Wednesday all ready??? Wow. This week seems to be touched with lightening speed.....

 Out in the Cold!

Now.... how ridiculous am I. Why, just a week or so ago I was complaining about being in the house for so long without much of a break. Now I am actually COMPLAINING about having to get of the house tomorrow. Tomorrow Monkey has a hearing test. She tends to say certain words wrong, which is causing concern among some family members. Personally, I wasn't too worried, but if it makes other family members feel better, and truly, it doesn't hurt her at all..... okay. The reason I am complaining.... the high tomorrow should be around 13 degrees-- and, there's gonna be a nasty wind. Can we say Y-U-C-K-Y. I really hate to get the girls out in this.

We're leaving early in the morning and won't get back until dinner time. First stop... hearing exam. Next, lunch and then, shopping. Pumpkin's birthday is at the end of the month. Last week, Honey took it upon himself to do most of her birthday shopping by himself. I'm assuming that he forgot about the fact that we were going to have the opportunity tomorrow. I just have to put on the positive spin that with most of that done, now we have more time for other fun stuff. I also have to admit, he did a great job, and at least he left a few little odds and ends to pick up.

It's been a quiet day here today. Yesterday Pumpkin had her friend, Anne, over. She was.. interesting. A lot more quiet than Brit, who literally had the pictures shaking on the walls.... However, what she “lacked” in energy she made up for in attitude. She refused to sit with us for lunch, and then when she got hungry and we suggested perhaps popcorn for a snack, she agreed. Only, half way through making it, she changed her mind. She didn't want popcorn anymore, What else did we have? After refusing 4 choices, I gave up and said that's what we had at the moment, take it or leave it..... I'm just not going to make a gazillion things only to have her "change her mind" half way through....

It was kinda weird because it's my house, but not my kid. I’m new at this how to deal with kid’s friends thingy. I have to figure out "the line." For the most part, Anne seems like a great kid. However, for instance, when I say it's time to get ready to go home and as I turn my back she sticks out her tongue and makes a mean face (saw it in a picture reflection).... That’s just not okay. I turned around, stared at her for a moment and then in that mom voice, you know... the quiet, low range voice that somehow conveys much more than what the actual words can... I told her to get ready because it was time to go. Getting in the van, Pumpkin decided to test the whole stick out your tongue theory.... With a simple "no manners, no special privileges, meaning no friends over....." her eyes widened a tiny bit and she was back to being my kid once again.

Pumpkin's not here tonight; I miss her. It’s just one night. Funny how things like that work. Mom C and Papa took her to the Maine Horseman Conference and Trade show going on this weekend. I hope she has fun!!! Mom and Papa are putting up a top of the line barn this spring and by this time next year they plan on having 2-4 horses! I think it's sort of interesting because Spring 2009 they are going to be in Europe for a week or so. So just how are they going to care for horses and be oversees at the same time???? yeah....

Good thing I love animals.......

Actually, Pumpkin's riding instructor has given them an interesting option to consider. Deb currently has 6 horses with one on the way. She's got an Appaloosa, a quarter horse (that's who Pumpkin rides and has really taken to), a Morgan, a Friesian and two Morgan-Friesian mixes. The two brothers (the mixes) are absolutely beautiful and are so much fun! This past fall when Miss M (the Morgan) gave the Friesian a come hither look that he couldn't resist.... they are parents once again. The foal is due some time this spring. However, Deb really only has room for a total of 6 horses. She's said that once Miss M has the foal, she is more than willing to let M and baby come live over here to give everyone an opportunity to learn more about horses and the care they require. Once the baby is finally weaned from his/her mom, she takes Miss M back and Mom C and Papa purchase the foal. By then, Mom is already planning on having at least one, maybe two more horses. Exciting! I can't wait to watch the horse grow. I fear in some ways it is going to be hard to remember that it's not my horse. Apparently I pamper their cat and dog with enough affection that I need to be reminded every once in awhile that they are HER cat and his dog... opps. It's just so very hard not to have any of my own right now. I wonder if perhaps the future foal may be Pumpkin's someday. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It appears one way or another that I shall be a member of a horse family so I’ve been doing a lot of reading on horses in general. Currently I'm reading about the language of horses. Horses are quite fascinating and I look forward to being around them more. When I was younger my next door neighbor had a horse. Part of the pasture came right up close to one of the favorite trees I used to sit in as a kid. So there the horse and I’d be… keeping each other company. I always felt sorry for her as she seemed so lonely.

To this day I’ve never figured out why people get an animal if they spend so little time with the dear creature???? It's just like getting a "pet" dog only to leave him or her chained outside day in and day out. Really.. what's the point of that??? Maybe it' just me... maybe I just don't get it....

Hmmmm… is that it for the ramble tonight??? I believe so as I really have got to get to bed. We have to leave around 7:30 in order to be there in time tomorrow morning. I hope you all have a great start to your week…. Do hope you stay nice and toasty warm wherever you go!!!!

 Little Wonders on Saturday

Rob Thomas- Little Wonders

let it go,
let it roll right off your shoulder
don't you know
the hardest part is over
let it in,
let your clarity define you
in the end
we will only just remember how it feels

our lives are made
in these small hours
these little wonders,
these twists & turns of fate
time falls away,
but these small hours,
these small hours still remain

let it slide,
let your troubles fall behind you
let it shine
until you feel it all around you
and i don't mind
if it's me you need to turn to
we'll get by,
it's the heart that really matters in the end

our lives are made in these small hours
these little wonders,
these twists & turns of fate
time falls away,
but these small hours,
these small hours still remain

all of my regret
will wash away some how
but i can not forget
the way i feel right now

in these small hours
these little wonders
these twists & turns of fate
these twists & turns of fate
time falls away but these small hours
these small hours, still remain,
still remain
these little wonders
these twists & turns of fate
time falls away
but these small hours
these little wonders still remain
