MacKenzie's Inner Fire

 What a Weekend!

Wow.... I've been out of the house this weekend more than I have been in!!!! That is quite a change....

Why is it that you never really know how much you need a change of pace until you are "forced" to make it?? It was wonderful to get out on Friday with Cerelia for our "girls day out". Even Pumpkin, Monkey and Parrot had a lot of fun. I can't believe how much we shopped!!! So many wonderful things to buy, but I was good, for the most part. If I had three shirts in my hand, I put two back. I stuck to my list and brought home mostly cleaning supplies and yarn.

yes... Yarn. I'm certainly not very good with knitting needles, but I've discovered that it's sort of fun to knit with a knitting loom. I've made a bright orange hat for one of the girls as hunting season is coming up and they can't go play outside without one and I've made a cream colored baby hat for Abigail. I found this really funky coordinating yarn with the bright orange in it that I'm going to turn into pom poms for all three girl's hunters orange hats. Never made pom poms before, but I don't think it should be THAT hard....

Saturday Monkey and Parrot went off to dance class. An hour later Honey and Pumpkin went to her horse back riding lesson. The instructor, who now happens to also work for the agency, noticed that Honey took a real interest in her Friesian, whom she's teaching to pull things behind him as well as riding. She told him that any time he'd like to come over and work with the horse, he's more than welcome.

I had close to half an hour all to myself and it was wonderful to just sit and look at the trees and while relaxing with tea. Then in the afternoon, Honey brought Pumpkin's basketball hoop over finally from next door and we all stayed outside doing this, that and the other.

Yesterday, I worked in the morning, left work to come back and get the girls all dressed up becuase their grandparents took them to see a Peter Pan production in Bangor. The girls loved it and had a wonderful time. I had to finish up at work and when I got done, I came home and immediately hopped in the shower because every time I come home from work I smell like bleach. I stepped out to find Honey holding a towel just out of the dryer. ummm... that was a wonderful surprise. He informed me that we were going out so I'd better hurry up and get ready.

(happy contented sigh....) It was so wonderful.... (another sigh.. ) We talked and laughed and had a fantastic time window shopping and then we were going to go out to eat, but in the end we just grabbed Chinese food to bring home and watched Sleepy Hollow. You know how it goes, ladies, you snuggle in just a little more during the bloody parts that you still see while peeking between your fingers, secretly ignoring the movie as your honey's arm brings you closer.....

Wonderful weekend.... but unfortunately, I woke up to find my house looking similar to this....

This isn't my kitchen, but the clutter almost seems the same and it just spreads across the table and into the living room.

So, it's time to play catch up from the weekend.
Take care everyone!!!!

 Saturday's Music Phantoms

It was hard to choose a song for this Saturday. I've been listening to this soundtrack off and on this week. The melodies, the talent in the voices alone are so hauntingly beautiful. So many different songs to choose from.... but I finally ended with this one. Maybe that's because when I was younger I had a musical snow globe. Inside was a girl holding her hand out to a dragon and the music was a few simple refrains from "The Music of the Night." In one of our moves it broke... I still remember sitting on my bed and listening to the music, mesmerized, as I watched the snow settle back down from a vigorous shaking!!!

I can't exactly remember when I did this test. I was first married and I think it was in the last apartment we lived in before we bought our first house. Well... ... newly married, on the road to self discovery (and STILL wandering...), trying to figure out what made me "tick", I read some random book on sensuality and one of the exercises they wanted you to do was to eat an orange in the day time as well as at night. It wasn't exactly about eating the orange itself as the sensation of the task. When you first dig your nail into the orange, enjoy the scent, the way it felt in your hands, the sound of the skin peeling back, the taste of it in your mouth..... How did it differ in the day time than in the night and a whole bunch of other things. It was an interesting exercise and I do remember feeling a stronger sense of awareness sitting on the floor of my living room with only the street lights from outside giving a hint of illumination. What is it about the night and the darkness that sometimes makes one feel so much more alive???

THE MUSIC OF THE NIGHT-

PHANTOM:
(opening of the scene)

Night-time sharpens,
heightens each sensation . . .
Darkness stirs and
wakes imagination . . .
Silently the senses
abandon their defenses . . .

Slowly, gently
night unfurls its splendour . . .
Grasp it, sense it -
tremulous and tender . . .
Turn your face away
from the garish light of day,
turn your thoughts away
from cold, unfeeling light -
and listen to
the music of the night . . .

Close your eyes
and surrender to your
darkest dreams!
Purge your thoughts
of the life
you knew before!
Close your eyes,
let your spirit
start to soar!
And you'll live
as you've never
lived before . . .

Softly, deftly,
music shall caress you . . .
Hear it, feel it,
secretly possess you. . .
Open up your mind,
let your fantasies unwind,
in this darkness that
you know you cannot fight -
the darkness of
the music of the night . . .

Let your mind
start a journey through a
strange new world!
Leave all thoughts
of the life
you knew before!
Let your soul
Take you where you
long to be!
Only then
can you belong
to me . . .

Floating, falling,
sweet intoxication!
Touch me, trust me
savour each sensation!
Let the dream begin,
let your darker side give in
to the power of the music that I write -
the power of the music of the night . . .

You alone can may my
Song take flight
Help me make the music of the night

 Your Halloween Personality

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Slowly the spirit of Halloween is making it's way into my household. My little Halloween village is up, black jingle bell spiders grace my kitchen cupboards, my kitchen witch is overseeing affairs in the dining room, glittery pumpkins are appearing all over my house....... The girls are having fun.

This year I had to make the decision... do I get my Kids costumes or do I get one for MYSELF.... I don't think I need to tell you whose getting them this year. When we were moving out of the trailer this spring we discovered that mice had found our old Halloween clothing made a wonderful nest so I don't even have that to fall back on. Maybe I'll be able to pull something together last minute.... we'll see. I haven't really been inspired as anything this year as I have in the past so I may end up taking a break from dressing up.

Yesterday we got invited to a haunted hay ride. We are very excited because one of the women who participates was telling me about it. Her daughter and Pumpkin are great friends so Pumpkin can't wait to go. It sounds amazing. Hopefully Mom and Papa can watch the twinadoes for an evening because I don't think it would be appropriate for them.

I was sad and disappointed when Pumpkin came home this week with a letter from school stating that they were not going to participate in a Halloween party this year. They are going to have a "Fall Celebration" instead..... oh, C'mon.....

What Your Halloween Habits Say About You
You love the drama of Halloween. You definitely like to have the best costume around - and everyone noticing you.

Sneaky and devious, people should really watch out for you. You are usually underestimated and forgotten.

Your inner child is open minded, playful, and adventurous.

You truly fear the dark side of humanity. You are a true misanthrope.

You're prone to be quite emotional and over dramatic. Deep down, you enjoy being scared out of your mind... even if you don't admit it.

You are unique, expressive, and a trendsetter. Your ideal Halloween costume is over the top and one of a kind.

 The Daily Grind

What a weird weekend this past one was. First of all, Honey and I were at odds all weekend long. Couldn't seem to see eye to eye on anything!!! If he joked, I took it seriously. If I tried to cheer him up by our usual teasing banter, he got offended. We may have been looking in the same direction this weekend, but we were on two different rocks surrounded by ocean this weekend. Hate it when that happens....

Also, it was just a complete food fest these past few days. There are some things that you just can't take back over the American border and some things that had the possibility of spoiling before it got back here so it was an eat it or we throw it out situation. My mom taught me NEVER to waste food.... One evening, there were 5 cartons of ice cream sitting in the middle of the kitchen table, with cherries, sauces, whipped cream and it was... eat it now because the rest tonight is being thrown away. Everyone... I mean EVERYONE went crazy. I felt so sick to my tummy before going to bed that night. Everyone did. It was one of those.. why, Why, WHY on earth did we do that??? I do NOT crave ice cream any more....

I'm very glad to be home so that we can get back to our routine and normal way of life. Again, this weekend was just... weird. I don't know WHAT was going on.

Saturday afternoon I was hoping to walk the beach just one more time. I wanted so much just to be alone with my thoughts. Feeling the sand and rocks beneath my feet, feeling the wind, hearing the waves, it really helps put me in that meditative place where I can explore what's going on deep down the spiral stairway. I very anxious, very excited to be heading towards the water. Half way there, suddenly my oldest says, Hey Mom!!! Where are you going??? uh-oh.... "I'm just going for a little walk. I'll be back in a bit." "HEY!!!! I want to come, too!" "Me, Too!" Parrot chimes in. Half of me is screaming no, the other half is saying that it's the last time that they would get to walk on the beach for the season, too. (Insert choice swear words here...) Pause... SIGH.... "Fine, if you can hurry up, clean up and grab your jackets, we'll go." No private walk on the beach for me. We had fun and all. It was nice, but I really was craving something else at the moment. Ah well... whatcha gonna do???

Today it's all about unpacking, doing laundry and putting everything away. Its funny because last week was one of those clean up the food in the refrigerator and freezer. I have to go to the store and replenish the stock, so to speak and I just don't want to go. I have no inclination to buy food, clean food, cook food let alone eat food. The weekend has definitely done me in!!!!

Cheers! ~MacKenzie
